This client is a distributor of plastic sheeting to locations all around the world. They have 28 employees and had a basic file server. The owner wanted to replace all the workstations due to age and add a mail server to keep their mail on premise and not on the cloud. Office 365 was becoming incredibly expensive per month and the cost benefit of an on premise server showed a return on investment in about 3 years. The owner also doesn’t trust the cloud for security reasons.
BrenTech provided a quote to install a mail server and instead of purchasing 28 computers at around $800 each ($22,400 + tax) a terminal server was suggested ($12,000) saving the owner tens of thousands of dollars.
The owner approved the terminal server and mail server and BrenTech installed the equipment in less than 2 weeks. The terminal server provided a centralized location for all internal employees to log into with the older computers that provided fast and secure operations. The owner’s favorite functions of the terminal server is/was the ability to reduce maintenance/installation/upgrade times for all users and the ability to watch user’s desktop activity covertly while they worked.
The terminal server allowed the owner to purchase thin clients when old computers died ($200). It also gave the users the opportunity to work from anywhere in the world provided they have internet. The experience was liberating for the managers and owner. The server is fast and all data is secured on the server with none of the data being anywhere else but on the server.
The biggest cost savings the terminal server provided was the ability to install a new application once on the terminal server (1/2 hr) and all 28 users immediately had access to the application whereas before the terminal server was in place each computer (28) had to have the application installed individually (14 hrs). Upgrades were also just as fast. The amount of support agreement hours needed dropped dramatically saving the owner thousands of dollars a year on support.
